Sediment Mapping System
BSS+ is a hydrographic survey and
sub-bottom profiling system with navigation system and PC computer contained in
a single unit. Major included components are an Intelligent Depth Sounder (IDS),
digital sub-bottom profiler, differential GPS Receiver (DGPS), beacon receiver,
navigation computer, and daylight visible display.
The BSS+5 is designed for sub-bottom profiling from small
boats by including all components in a single portable waterproof case and
operating from a 12 volt car battery. Surveying can commence with the BSS+, a
battery and a boat. All survey and post-processing software is included. HYPACK
by Coastal Oceanographics can be installed as the navigation software. The 200
kHz Intelligent Depth Sounder provides “paperless” electronic recording.
The 4 additional simultaneous operating frequencies create a sub-bottom
profiling capability. Depth and sub-bottom data is digitized at a 100 kHz rate
with 16 bit resolution for 0.75 cm resolution and discrimination of 65,536
levels of echo amplitude.
