The Bathymetric Survey System (BSS) is a fully integrated DGPS survey system which includes SDI’s Intelligent Depth Sounder (IDS) in a single small portable system. The BSS operates from 12 vdc and includes an internal beacon receiver or can be supplied with SDI’s Remote Differential Base Station (RDBS). The BSS hydrographic survey system contains the Intelligent Depth Sounder (IDS), differential GPS Receiver (DGPS), reference station receiver or USCG beacon receiver, navigation computer, with new miniature joystick and back-lit keyboard, daylight readable 12” TFT color display, survey software and rapid data playback and review software. The GPS system includes a Novatel Millenium 12 channel receiver with options available for sub-meter, RT-20 or RT-2 real time kinematic capability. Equivalent Ashtech or Trimble GPS receivers are available. The USCG beacon receiver is both 2 channel and auto searching. The optional radio modem obtains GPS corrections from an RDBS base station. Radio range to 30 miles is available. Tide and heave inputs can be derived from the RTK options or from external heave and tide instrumentation. SDI’s
“Paperless” IDS Intelligent Depth Sounder
IDS is a full survey grade depth sounder that digitizes
the echo to 16 bit resolution and stores the full digital record on hard disk.
IDS provides play back with high resolution and detail.
65,536 shades of gray are digitized versus a maximum of 16 shades typical
of paper records. The depth resolution is maintained regardless of the depth
range. DEPTHPIC and SDIDEPTH software provides convenient replay and
reprocessing of hydrographic data without hand digitizing or scaling of
position. Navigation data and collection parameters are saved with each depth
sounding. Positions, events and operator annotations are exchanged between
HYPACK and SDIDEPTH programs. DEPTH SOUNDER SPECIFICATIONS: Software
SDIDEPTH data acquisition and in-the-field data analysis and replay
DEPTHPIC post-processing and editing software with multiple file output

Computer SDI’s hardened computers include armored display windows,
marine grade aluminum display housings and non-corrosive impact resistant
plastic cases with stainless steel hardware.
Display controls and hinges are o-ring sealed and connectors are
waterproof or splash resistant. This
computer can be upgraded in the future unlike most laptops.
