There are some very useful features of the SDI BSS+ and Surveycase line of survey instruments that are not found in most other common depth sounders. These features include; full echo recording, wide dynamic range with 65,536 shades of gray on the SDI systems versus 12 to 16 shades of gray for most depth sounders. Multiple discrete widely separated frequencies of operation add sedimentation mapping advantages. This includes 4, 12, 24, 48, and 200 kHz profiling capability available all in one system. The complete survey system including depth sounder, GPS system, Differential or Kinematic receiver and the computer are all packaged in one housing. This means fewer connections and less time required to set up and take down the equipment. This also means there are fewer connections subject to failure and the equipment is more reliable. We have more recently added the capability to include side scan sonar to these survey systems through marriage of an Imagenex Side Scan sonar into out equipment.   Surveycase All-in-one Bathymetric Survey System The Surveycase is a complete bathymetric survey system in a single briefcase sized water proof package. The internal electronics is mounted on a shock absorbing sub-frame within the housing and the system is weather proof when open in operating mode. The depth sounder software license with review and post-processing capability is included. We have included all cables, connectors, GPS and beacon antennas and the transducer for operation of this system. There are two options offered for the navigation software. Also included with this system are an operating manual with Quick Start laminated instructions, an external USB solid state memory for archiving data and an external USB CD-RW and a one year limited warranty. A very important real advantage of the Surveycase system is the recording and storage of the full echo rather than just recording a digitized depth. The system is highly portable, very weather proof, and operates from a 12 volt car battery. With this system, either HYPACK or SmartSurvey navigation software, a battery and a boat you are ready to survey. The navigation and depth sounder programs run on the internal computer system. The depth sounder programs and depth post-processing programs are included. We do not copy protect the depth sounder post-processing software. Please note that you are free to install this program on your office computers. This allows you to process data without needing a key or the equipment.   There are two options for a navigation program if you do not already have HYPACK. HYPACK Lite is the best suited and most comprehensive navigation program for the operator that either already knows HYPACK or will be using the system frequently. We also offer a simplified navigation program without many of the capabilities of HYPACK. This is SMARTSURVEY and was written specifically for the untrained user. Options that are available include a second external display for the boat driver and the side scan sonar. The waterproof daylight visible display is our LCDTFT10 stand-alone display. This display plugs directly into the Surveycase or the BSS+ and gets its signal and power from this single cable. The same data image available to the operator is then available to the boat driver. You probably will not need the display unless want the boat driver to have his own display. This can be added later at any time as all Surveycases and BSS+ units have the capability pre-wired into the system.     BSS+ Sediment Profiling System The BSS+ survey unit includes the totally enclosed 12 channel precision DGPS receiver, beacon receiver, digital 200 kHz depth sounder of the Surveycase and up to 4 additional frequencies. The multiple sub-bottom frequencies are each assigned a color and the displayed data thus shows sediment reflectivity and sub-bottom material scattering based on the received echoes over the widely separated operational frequencies. This sediment mapping and classification is unique to the BSS+ systems. .     VibeCore-D The VibeCore-D coring device consists of a vibrating core head with weight ring, check valve, and core tube. The VibeCore-D obtains a 7.6 cm (3”) or 5.1 cm ( 2”) diameter vertical cylindrical sample of the reservoir sediments. These samples are obtained by vertically vibrating the liner less core tube at sufficient frequency to liquefy water saturated sediments and allow the core tube to progress into the sediment. Once dry, compacted, or consolidated material is reached the core tube progression into the bottom is halted. At this time the operator turns off the vibration action and the core it retrieved with a vertical pull. Standard core tube is aluminum. Plastic and stainless steel core tubes are available for trace metal or organic sampling requirements. The VibeCore-D was designed for operation from a small boat and requires only a pair of 12 volt batteries for its power source. Core tube lengths are typically 1 to 4 meters in length. Core samples up to 5 meters have been taken with the VibeCore-D. SDI Core Catchers were available for very soft sediments or for sampling in clean coarse sand sediments. Included with the purchase of a VibeCore-D are spare set screws, hand tools, adapter check valve, castle nuts, cotter pins and tape. Other available options are core tube pushers, tube caps, Teflon film and tube cutters. We can provide a core tube adapter for the tube size available in your local area. The DJB-Core is an A-Frame made to be mounted on a Dual Jon Boat or other survey craft. The DJB-Core is designed to be easily removed from the Jon boats for transit or storage and includes mounting sockets, locking pins as well as a mounted hand winch, pivoting frame structure and lifting wire. The DJB-Core is specifically designed for use with SDI’s VibeCore-D 3” coring device.   We provide 24 hour/ 7 days a week telephone support for a year with the equipment purchase.   New equipment delivery is available in 8 to 12 weeks (rush delivery is available).
